LaseMD Ultra Laser

Advanced Fractional Laser Technology for Brighter, Smoother, More Even-Looking Skin

LaseMD Ultra is an advanced 1927 nm non-ablative fractional thulium laser designed to improve skin tone, texture and visible sun damage while stimulating renewal within the skin.

At The Skin Clinic @ Raintree Spa, LaseMD Ultra is one of the primary technologies we use for Skin Resurfacing and advanced skin rejuvenation.

Its strength is its versatility. Treatment intensity can be customized according to the condition of your skin and the degree of correction we are trying to achieve, allowing us to use LaseMD Ultra for everything from progressive skin renewal to more corrective resurfacing protocols.

Is LaseMD Ultra Right for You?

LaseMD Ultra may be an excellent option if you are noticing:

  • Sun damage
  • Age spots and sun spots
  • Uneven pigmentation
  • Melasma
  • Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
  • Freckles
  • Dull or uneven skin tone
  • Rough or uneven texture
  • Early signs of skin aging
  • Skin that simply doesn't look as clear, smooth or healthy as it once did

Many of these concerns develop together.

Years of sun exposure, changes in cellular turnover and declining collagen can leave skin looking less even, less reflective and more visibly aged.

Rather than treating only one isolated spot, fractional resurfacing allows us to improve the broader quality of the skin while also targeting specific concerns.

What Makes LaseMD Ultra Different?

Not all resurfacing lasers work the same way.

LaseMD Ultra uses a 1927 nm thulium wavelength delivered fractionally across the skin.

This wavelength has a strong interaction with water within the superficial layers of the skin, allowing controlled thermal energy to be delivered where many concerns involving pigmentation, tone and surface quality are found.

The treatment is non-ablative, meaning it creates controlled fractional treatment zones without removing the entire surface of the skin.

Untreated tissue remains between those microscopic treatment zones, supporting the skin's natural recovery process.

LaseMD Ultra is also a high-powered 20-watt system, allowing treatment intensity and coverage to be customized according to what we are trying to accomplish.

Its IntelliTrak rolling system and Controlled Chaos Technology are designed to deliver fractional microbeams rapidly and consistently across the treatment area.

The result is a resurfacing technology that can deliver meaningful correction without requiring the recovery associated with more aggressive fully ablative laser resurfacing.

How LaseMD Ultra Works

LaseMD Ultra delivers thousands of microscopic columns of fractional laser energy into the skin.

These controlled thermal zones trigger a natural healing and renewal response.

Over the days following treatment, damaged and pigmented cells begin moving toward the surface as the skin renews itself. This is why the skin can temporarily feel dry or rough before becoming clearer and smoother.

At the same time, the controlled thermal response stimulates remodeling within the treated tissue.

Because the laser is fractional, only a portion of the skin is treated at one time. Surrounding untreated tissue supports recovery while the treated areas undergo renewal.

The objective is not simply exfoliation.

We are creating a controlled regenerative response within the skin to improve its tone, texture, clarity and overall quality.

What We Use LaseMD Ultra For

Skin Resurfacing

LaseMD Ultra is one of our primary technologies for professional Skin Resurfacing.

Fractional treatment helps improve rough texture, visible sun damage, uneven pigmentation and overall skin quality while encouraging healthy cellular renewal.

Treatment intensity can be adjusted according to how much correction is appropriate and how much recovery time fits your lifestyle.

Pigmentation & Sun Damage

One of LaseMD Ultra's particular strengths is the treatment of unwanted superficial pigmentation.

We may use it to improve:

  • Age spots
  • Sun spots
  • Freckles
  • Uneven pigmentation
  • Visible photodamage
  • General dyschromia

Because treatment is delivered fractionally across an area rather than simply targeting one isolated lesion, LaseMD Ultra can be particularly useful when sun damage is scattered across the complexion.

Melasma & Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation

Pigmentation is not one condition, and this distinction matters.

Melasma and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation behave differently from simple sun spots and require thoughtful treatment selection.

LaseMD Ultra has specific Canadian indications that include melasma in Fitzpatrick skin types II-IV and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation in Fitzpatrick skin type IV.

That does not mean every person with melasma or PIH should automatically receive laser treatment.

These conditions can be reactive, and successful management often requires attention to triggers, sun protection, home care and the overall treatment strategy.

When LaseMD Ultra is appropriate, its fractional 1927 nm technology gives us another valuable option within that plan.

Skin Rejuvenation

Sometimes the concern isn't one specific brown spot or one line.

The skin simply looks more tired, uneven or weathered than it used to.

LaseMD Ultra can be used as part of a broader Skin Rejuvenation plan to improve:

  • Overall brightness
  • Uneven tone
  • Surface texture
  • Visible sun damage
  • Skin clarity
  • Early signs of aging

This is where the adjustability of the technology becomes particularly valuable.

Treatment can be tailored according to whether we're looking for lighter rejuvenation and maintenance or more significant corrective resurfacing.

LaseMD Ultra: More Than a Surface Treatment

It is easy to think of laser resurfacing as simply removing dull or damaged skin from the surface.

LaseMD Ultra works differently.

The fractional 1927 nm laser creates controlled microscopic thermal zones within the skin, stimulating a renewal response rather than simply mechanically exfoliating the surface.

This is why the treatment can influence several aspects of skin quality at the same time.

Pigmentation can become more even.

Texture can feel smoother.

Sun-damaged skin can appear clearer.

And the controlled thermal response can support superficial collagen remodeling.

For the right skin, those combined changes can create a meaningful improvement in overall skin quality without fundamentally changing how you look.

Why We Chose LaseMD Ultra

Technology matters when you're deliberately creating controlled injury within the skin.

At The Skin Clinic @ Raintree Spa, we chose LaseMD Ultra because it gives our providers a sophisticated combination of power, precision and adjustability.

The system offers:

  • A dedicated 1927 nm thulium wavelength
  • Non-ablative fractional energy delivery
  • Up to 20 watts of power
  • Adjustable treatment intensity
  • IntelliTrak rolling technology
  • Controlled Chaos Technology for consistent microbeam placement
  • Real-time measurement of delivered energy
  • Fast treatment coverage
  • The ability to treat a wide range of skin types
  • Minimal downtime relative to more aggressive ablative resurfacing

LaseMD Ultra is manufactured by Cynosure Lutronic, an established international medical aesthetic technology company.

We don't choose technology simply because it is new or because a device name is marketable.

We choose technologies that give us meaningful clinical options and allow treatment to be customized to the individual in front of us.

LaseMD Ultra vs Other Resurfacing Technologies

There are several excellent fractional laser technologies available for skin resurfacing, including well-known systems such as Fraxel and MOXI.

We chose LaseMD Ultra for The Skin Clinic @ Raintree Spa because it gives us an unusually useful combination of 1927 nm fractional resurfacing, high power, adjustable treatment intensity and relatively manageable recovery.

That combination fits the way we practice.

We wanted a technology capable of providing meaningful correction for pigmentation, sun damage, uneven tone and texture, while also allowing us to adjust treatment intensity according to the individual guest and the amount of recovery that makes sense for them.

Why 1927 nm?

LaseMD Ultra uses a 1927 nm thulium wavelength.

This wavelength is strongly absorbed by water within the superficial layers of the skin, making it particularly useful for concerns involving:

  • Sun damage
  • Age spots and sun spots
  • Uneven pigmentation
  • Freckles
  • Melasma in appropriate candidates
  • Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation in appropriate candidates
  • Rough or uneven texture
  • Overall skin tone and clarity

Other respected resurfacing systems also use 1927 nm technology. That is important because our decision wasn't based on claiming that LaseMD Ultra had discovered a uniquely effective wavelength.

We chose it because of how the Ultra platform delivers and controls that wavelength.

More Treatment Range From One Platform

LaseMD Ultra is a 20-watt fractional 1927 nm system.

That power, combined with adjustable treatment parameters, gives us considerable flexibility in how aggressively we treat the skin.

For someone looking for lighter skin renewal, treatment can be kept relatively gentle.

For someone with more established photodamage, pigmentation or textural change, we can use the technology more correctively when appropriate.

That treatment range was important to us because our guests are not all looking for the same experience or the same degree of correction.

LaseMD Ultra vs MOXI

MOXI is another respected 1927 nm non-ablative fractional laser and shares several characteristics with LaseMD Ultra. Both are designed to improve pigmentation, tone and texture with relatively limited downtime.

MOXI is particularly well known for lighter resurfacing, maintenance and what is often described as "prejuvenation."

LaseMD Ultra gives us the 1927 nm wavelength within a platform designed to offer a broad range of treatment intensity, from lighter rejuvenation through more corrective resurfacing.

For our practice, that versatility was particularly attractive because we treat both guests beginning to notice changes in their skin and those with more established sun damage and pigmentation.

LaseMD Ultra vs Fraxel

Fraxel is one of the best-known names in fractional laser resurfacing and helped establish fractional technology within aesthetic medicine.

Fraxel systems include different wavelengths depending on the platform. The Fraxel Dual, for example, combines 1550 nm and 1927 nm wavelengths, allowing treatment at different tissue depths.

That can be an advantage when deeper dermal remodeling is the treatment objective.

Our primary reason for choosing LaseMD Ultra was different.

We wanted a technology particularly well suited to the concerns we see every day in our clinic: sun damage, pigmentation, uneven tone, rough texture and overall skin quality, with treatment intensity that could be customized without automatically moving into a more aggressive resurfacing experience.

For those objectives, the dedicated 1927 nm Ultra platform was an excellent fit.

Why We Chose LaseMD Ultra

We don't believe there is one "best" resurfacing laser.

There are excellent technologies available, and the right choice depends on what a clinic wants the technology to accomplish.

For Raintree, LaseMD Ultra offered the balance we were looking for:

  • 1927 nm fractional thulium technology particularly well suited to pigmentation and photodamage
  • 20 watts of power with considerable treatment flexibility
  • Adjustable treatment intensity for both rejuvenation and more corrective resurfacing
  • IntelliTrak rolling technology designed to help provide consistent coverage
  • Controlled Chaos Technology for fractional microbeam placement
  • Real-time measurement of delivered energy
  • Treatment capability across a broad range of skin types
  • Relatively manageable recovery compared with more aggressive resurfacing technologies
  • The ability to integrate easily into individualized skin rejuvenation programs

Most importantly, it gives us options.

We can treat someone who wants brighter, fresher-looking skin very differently from someone coming to us with years of accumulated sun damage and uneven pigmentation.

That flexibility is ultimately why LaseMD Ultra earned its place in our clinic.

What to Expect From a LaseMD Ultra Treatment

Before Treatment

Your skin will be assessed to determine whether LaseMD Ultra is appropriate and what treatment intensity makes sense for your skin and the concern being addressed.

For lighter treatments, topical numbing may not be necessary. For more intensive resurfacing, a topical anesthetic may be used to improve comfort.

During Treatment

The LaseMD Ultra handpiece is passed systematically across the treatment area as fractional laser energy is delivered into the skin.

Most treatments are relatively quick. Treatment time varies according to the area and intensity selected.

You may feel warmth, prickling or increasing heat as treatment progresses.

After Treatment

Immediately afterward, the skin may appear pink or red and feel warm.

Over the following days, it is common for the skin to feel dry, rough or slightly sandpaper-like as treated cells move toward the surface.

This is part of the resurfacing process.

As that resolves, the skin typically begins to look brighter, smoother and more even.

More intensive treatment settings generally create a stronger response and more visible recovery than lighter rejuvenation settings.

How Much Downtime Should I Expect?

LaseMD Ultra is designed to provide fractional resurfacing with minimal downtime compared with traditional ablative resurfacing, but "minimal downtime" does not mean that nothing happens to the skin.

You should expect some degree of visible treatment response.

Depending on treatment intensity, this may include:

  • Redness
  • Warmth
  • Mild swelling
  • Dryness
  • Rough or sandpaper-like texture
  • Temporary darkening of treated pigmentation before it sheds

Many guests continue with normal activities, but your skin may visibly look and feel treated for several days.

Complete resolution of the dry, rough sensation commonly occurs within approximately 5 to 7 days.

We will explain what to expect based on the intensity of treatment we recommend for you.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

There isn't one universal LaseMD Ultra protocol.

Some people are looking for general rejuvenation and maintenance.

Others are treating more established pigmentation, photodamage or textural change.

A single treatment can create visible improvement, while a series of treatments may be recommended when more significant correction is desired.

Your treatment plan will be based on:

  • Your primary concern
  • The condition of your skin
  • Treatment intensity
  • Your tolerance for downtime
  • The degree of improvement you are hoping to achieve

Why Choose The Skin Clinic @ Raintree Spa

Choosing a resurfacing treatment isn't simply about choosing a laser. Different types of pigmentation, sun damage and textural change respond differently, and treatment intensity matters.

At The Skin Clinic, we assess your skin first and then determine whether fractional resurfacing is the right approach and how aggressively your skin should be treated.

LaseMD Ultra gives us considerable flexibility, from lighter skin renewal to more corrective resurfacing. That allows us to tailor treatment to your skin, the degree of correction you're looking for and the amount of recovery that works for you.

Sometimes LaseMD Ultra is the best choice.

Sometimes a more targeted laser treatment, microneedling or another approach makes more sense.

If we don't believe LaseMD Ultra is the right treatment for your skin, we'll tell you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is LaseMD Ultra an ablative laser?

No.

LaseMD Ultra is a non-ablative fractional laser.

It creates microscopic thermal treatment zones within the skin while leaving surrounding tissue intact, rather than removing the entire surface of the skin as a fully ablative resurfacing laser would.

What wavelength does LaseMD Ultra use?

LaseMD Ultra uses a 1927 nm thulium wavelength.

This wavelength is particularly useful for fractional skin renewal and addressing superficial pigmentation and sun damage.

Can LaseMD Ultra treat pigmentation?

Yes.

Pigmentation is one of LaseMD Ultra's key applications.

Depending on the type of pigmentation and your skin, it may be used for concerns including sun spots, age spots, freckles, uneven pigmentation, melasma and selected post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

The type of pigmentation should be assessed before treatment because not every pigment concern should be treated in the same way.

Is LaseMD Ultra good for melasma?

It can be.

LaseMD Ultra has a specific Canadian indication for melasma in Fitzpatrick skin types II-IV.

Melasma is a complex and frequently recurrent pigment condition, however, so the fact that a technology can treat melasma does not mean laser alone is the complete solution.

Treatment needs to be selected and managed appropriately.

Can LaseMD Ultra be used on darker skin?

Yes, LaseMD Ultra can be used across a broad range of skin types.

However, skin type matters when selecting treatment settings and when treating pigmentation because darker skin can have a greater risk of pigmentary response following inflammation.

We assess skin type, pigmentation and treatment history before determining the appropriate approach.

Does LaseMD Ultra hurt?

Most guests experience warmth and a prickling or increasingly hot sensation during treatment.

Comfort depends on treatment intensity and individual sensitivity.

Topical numbing may be used when more intensive settings are planned.

Is LaseMD Ultra the same as laser toning?

No.

Both may be used to improve aspects of pigmentation and skin clarity, but they deliver laser energy differently.

LaseMD Ultra is a fractional 1927 nm thulium resurfacing laser.

Laser toning generally uses different wavelengths and treatment parameters designed to interact with pigment and tissue in a different way.

The appropriate treatment depends on the type of pigmentation and the broader condition of the skin.

Can LaseMD Ultra be combined with other treatments?

Yes.

Skin aging rarely presents as only one issue.

Someone may have pigmentation and rough texture as well as skin laxity, redness or other changes that require a different treatment mechanism.

LaseMD Ultra may therefore form one part of a broader skin rejuvenation plan when combination treatment is appropriate.
